Buckskin, lambskin, antelope, sheepskin, and cowhide are the raw materials that are commonly used to manufacture leather products.

Do you know how the skin is derived from animals? At the meat processing plant skin is removed from animals and refrigerated, salted, or packed in barrels of the brine.

To preserve and to make it soft, the skin should go under some processes at the tannery. We will need skilled workers at a tannery. Because their work is very important to make sure that the resulting garment has a high quality.

You also need to buy from wholesale market sewing material such as thread lining, buttons, Seam tape, snaps, and zippers.

Types of leather garments:

1)Cow leather: Cow leather is suitable for making sturdy and stable clothes. This is due to the fact that cowhide is stronger, smoother, and more durable than most animal skins.

Leather wear includes things like motorcycle leather suits and other safety gear, as well as water buffalo leather boots.

Small, lightweight recreation jackets, mostly made of cowhide, are also very common and trendy.

2)Smooth lambskin: Smooth lambskin is typically used for lightweight casual coats, skirts, dresses, or leather trousers. Lambskin is also used in the manufacture of high-end leather clothing.

3)Goatskin: Suede made from goatskin is commonly used for coats, tops, and trousers.

4)pig leather: Low-cost leather clothing is made from pig leather. Suede and smooth leather are the most popular options. Pigskin leather is usually less stable and soft than goatskin or lamb leather.

Now I am going to tell you the preparation process.

The preparation process of leather manufacturing.

  • Trimming and cleaning process:
  • You need to have it trimmed and sorted according to the size, weight, and thickness of the skin.
  • We will have to remove protein on the skin which can produce bacteria. That’s why skin is soaked in drums filled with bactericides, detergent, and water.
  • Now hair is removed with the help of chemical sprays and lime solution. A scudding machine will also help you to remove excess hair.
  • In the second round of washing remove the chemical before we soak the hides in the acid solution and bathe.
  • At the end of the trimming and cleaning process enzyme treatment is used to remove the skin collagens. And then finally our hides are pickled with salt and sulfuric acid.
  • Tanning process:
  • Now the derived hides undergo three types of turning processes.
  • First, one is called the vegetable tanning process in this process skin is soaked in stronger acid solutions. It requires several weeks.
  • However, such as lamp skin, soft leather requires less time as much as 12 hours.
  • Now the next is the mineral tanning process. It is a faster process but it can change the color of the leather.
  • In this type of method, skins are soaked in the alum salt-filled drums which are fitted with a paddle because they can provide a constant agitating solution.
  • And the last method is the oil tanning process. In this process fish oil is sprayed on the skin.
  • Washing and drying process:
  • Your leather goes under all processes as above mentioned and then it comes to you again a washing and drying process.
  • Now our tanned skin is again washed and wrung out to remove the water from it.
  • However, the skin is cut with a band knife within the uniform thickness and it goes to the drying tunnels.
  • There can be shrinkage on skin that’s why to prevent skin shrinkage, skins are stretched on the frames during the drawing process.
  • To control the stiffness of the skin which can be produced by the drying process. Water and soap have been spread on the tanned hides and used to hang for some time.
  • To make more flexible and loosened leather it is placed in the machines where it is designed.
  • These tanned hides have to be placed in a vacuum drying cabinet in the final drying process.
  • After the completion of the drying process. The tanned hide goes on the high-speed emery wheels. At this point glazes, dyeing and lacquers are applied to the leather.
  • Now it is ready to go to the garment factory.

The manufacturing process in the garment industry.

In this process, we are taking an example of leather jacket manufacturing.

High-speed sewing machinery has changed the traditional swing process. Where one person can work from start to end on a high-speed sewing machine. That’s why they are more useful than traditional processes.

Designing of jacket
here many designers use computerized machines to design jackets and their patterns and their looks also.

Cutting process
Now the weather is placed on the spreaders. Spreaders mean it is a moving table. And then the patterns are placed on the leather and then it is cut by the machines.

Advanced machines and cut multiple layers simultaneously at a time.

The spreading table works on the conveyor system workers will have to move the table to the cutter machine. Which is fitted with rotary blades or band knives.

This spreader table is operated by humans or it can operate by automatic also. In the automation process, laser beams are very useful because they detect and cut automatically with the help of a computerized machine in the perfect pattern.

You can cut the lining material in the same manner. you will have to just use the multiple layers to cut simultaneously at the same time because the lining material is very thin in size.

Leather jacket assembly
After it comes from the cutting process used for the assembly selection. Here buttonhole, coolers, pockets, zippers all are placed in the automatic process.

In the mass production line, leather pieces move online where integrated automatic sewing machines are capable of 8000 stitches per minute.

After the completion of jacket assembly, every jacket is checked by the hands and then it is packed in plastic bags. Now it is ready to go to retailers.
